The Little Red Mailbox

For Valentine's Day, I decided surprise my sweetie with two weeks of tiny little gifts--nothing too extravagant, but definitely heartfelt. I went to a craft store and bought a little red mailbox, a few little treats from stores, a brown box, and a blank index cards. Each day, I would put something different into the mailbox. The first day started with an introduction from the LRM (little red mailbox) Postmaster about the rules of the box (Such as, "no mail unless the flag is up). For the next few days, I put in various treats like handmade cards made out of index cards, small packages, and even ads and junk mail for laughs! And like real mail -- no mail delivery on Sundays. You can make the box as personal as you want. Here are a few examples of what I made: homemade card, letters with poems, small stuffed doggie, etc… Be creative and have fun with this one :)

The Best Surprise

I know the idea of baking cookies is fairly common, but mine has a little twist to it. Last Valentine's Day, I baked heart shaped sugar cookies and decorated them with red, pink and white frosting, and wrote LOVE and XOXO on some of them. I put them in a heart shaped basket and wrapped red cellophane paper around the basket. Now here comes the twist. My boyfriend and I were in a long distance relationship at the time, but his parents live near me. Whenever my boyfriend was coming to town I would go over to his parents' house and then go to the airport with his dad to pick him up. That weekend, I told him that I wouldn't be able to make it to his house that night, but that I would see him the next day. I went to his house (his parents were in on this) and stayed there while his dad went to the airport so that he would believe that he really wouldn't get to see me that night. Then when I saw them pull up to the driveway, I ran to my boyfriend's room and sat on his bed with the basket of cookies and a card in front of me. When he went to put his bags in his room, he was so shocked to see me there! It was the best surprise I've ever come up with!

Valentine Proposal

On Valentine's Day 2004, my boyfriend and I had a low key dinner and watched a movie together. We'd been together for 5 years and were completely broke, so we didn't have any big plans for Valentine's Day. I gave him his gift and he handed me a little stuffed lion (I love lions) and I thought we were done. At about 11:00pm he asked me if I wanted the rest of my gift. I was a little confused, especially when he said, "It was too big to fit in the house so you have to go into the backyard." I started walking out through our pitch black kitchen and was peeking through the window over our kitchen sink only to see "Will You Marry Me?" lit up in red and white Christmas lights on our back fence. I stopped dead in my tracked and when I turned around, Chris was on one knee and was holding up my dream engagement ring. I was speechless as he made a little speech and slipped the ring on my finger. I was shaking and crying when I finally realized what had happened...I said yes of course!!

Want A Kiss?

Last Valentine's Day I wanted so badly to be with the one I love just to kiss him. Since it was impossible, I sent him a box. On top it said "Want A" then had a kiss taped below the words. Then when he opened the box it had a piece of paper that said, "Want To Make Out?" Then he lifted the paper and there were the rest of the kisses. He said it made him blush and he loved it!!

When He Didn't Expect It

For Valentine's Day, I really wanted to do something amazing for my boyfriend. I cut out 100 construction paper hearts, and I wrote I love you in 100 different languages on one side of each and a reason why I love him on the other side. I stringed these around and across his room with fishing wire so that they looked like they were floating. I made a HUGE homemade card out of a poster board that I painted on the outside, and on the inside I wrote him a really long, sweet poem. I hung streamers all over, spread confetti all about, and put balloons all around his room as well. I also got him chocolate lips and a singing gorilla stuffed animal. On his door, I put a decorated sign that said, "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways..." I did this all before he came home from college that night, and it was just a few days after I got out of intensive care, so he wasn't expecting anything at all. The look on his face when he opened the door to his room and read all of the hearts, one by one, was amazing. He seriously couldn't speak for about 5 minutes. It made him feel so wonderful, and he still talks about it months later.

You've Got Mail, Honey

My boyfriend lives in Florida and I in Nigeria, so on Valentine's Day, I created a new e-mail address and used our names for the passwords (mine for his password, his name for my password). I sent sexy shots of me, and one of us together which he had been pleading with me to scan and send since he last saw me. I sent poems and love mails too. I only gave him the mail address but told him to guess the password and when he opened it - after guessing!- he was greeted with, "WELCOME HONEY, YOU HAVE FOUR UNREAD MESSAGES,” which was so grand!

10 Reasons Why

For Valentine's Day, I cut out several hearts that led my boyfriend from the front door to the bedroom. He opened the door to a room full of balloons that covered the ground completely, with some balloons overlapping. In the middle of the room, on a chair, there was a stuffed black dog with boxing gloves on that read, "You're a Knock Out," (this was perfect since he loves to box)! There was a poem sitting beside it with candy kisses all around. In the midst of a room full of balloons he had to find the 10 special balloons and pop them to find the hidden message for the 10 Reasons Why I Love You.

Cute Valentines Day Ideas #2

Just take a disc or some media storage device and put your voice on that, to tell your lover about the intensity of your love . Dont forget to slip it into your lovers bag just before he/she is moving out for a business trip or some other task. Because during this he/she will not be in much contact with you.
